UK Bingo companies were recently urged to change “incorrect” bingo names in their sites and halls. The Sudbury Town Council worries that some will find  these bingo terms  offensive. Terms in question are ones such as “2 fat ladies” , they are said to be, "pollitically incorrect".
 
Recently, there has been a call for bingo companies to change these so called offensive terms. After all, perhaps "2 fat ladies" could be percieved as offensive to women who are overweight. Others have commented that this calling term is "sexist". The council also expressed concerns that some of the bingo companies may be sued.
 
As per marketing, these so called “politically incorrect” terms are effective tools of advertising. They are partly what makes online bingo attractive. They give the game character. Different companies come up with different calling names, they can be creative and witty. This marketing strategy has been used for years now and has proven to be effective in catching the attention of both offline and online bingo players. The majority of online bingo companies have been using these terms and changing them might create a little confusion on the part of the players. Not to mention changing them for completely, inoffensive, pollitically correct terms may make the game lose it's amusing edge.
 
The issue might have been just an “over reaction” on the part of the authorities because so far bingo players have shown their full support regarding this matter. Bingo Paradise has seen Facebook groups created with the purpose of supporting the use of the terms in question. It seems most online bingo  and land based players do indeed find the terms amusing and entertaining.
 
On the other hand, the council would like to make it clear that their only intention is just to protect bingo companies from a possible lawsuit. Many people may find it entertaining but there are still individuals who see the terms as offensive.
